Nails Tips&Tricks For My Dear Clumsy People
Wednesday, May 18, 2016I'm going to be blunt with you: my clumsiness is my greatest enemy when it comes to painting my nails. Of course, in this case, that would be rather logical to simply go and have them done, but I tend to avoid any type of social situations if it may lead to some extremely awkward consequences. So, thanks to my social anxiety, a trip to a nail salon is not my cup of tea. But hey-ho if you feel the same, not everything is lost and you and I still can have cute nails, LOL. For this post I have decided to share with you a few of my favourite tips&tricks that work the best for me. A little disclaimer: I'm not trying to take credits for any of the advice I mention here!
1) Before starting to do anything with a nail polish, grab a clear lip balm and apply it directly on the skin around fingernails without getting the product on the nails themselves. This will create a thin barrier, which will then ensure that even if you accidently swipe the polish brush on your skin (happens to me all the damn time), there will be no need to reaching for remover and messing around with your little mistake that can be actually easily removed by rubbing off the lip balm.
2) Base and top coat were both created for a reason, so don't skip these two steps. Besides that, it's better not to use top coat as base coat and vice versa, because this way you won't actually get the right effect. Remeber this: base coats are designed to prepare the nails for the polish and prevent staining, whilst top coat simply adds shine as well as helps to make the nail polish last longer.
3) Besides of having clumsiness as one of my best features, I also get shaky hands every now and then. What can you say, Mother Nature loves me to pieces. Therefore, it's almost impossible for me to paint my nails if my arms aren't on a stable surface. Let's say I'm painting the nails on my left hand, then it will be lying on the table and my right elbow will be on the table too. I'm always impressed to see people doing their nails on the go or even when simply having hands in the air.
4) I have a lack of patience, especially whilst waiting for nail polish to dry. One second it may seem alright and then once you start living your life again... your hard work is ruined. Woo-hoo, redoing everything, so much fun, yay. NOOOOOoooOOooooO. But you can actually now avoid it. A huge thank you to whoever discovered that cold water helps nail polish to dry a lot quicker. Dip you painted nails into a bowl containing cold, semi-ice, water and voilà.
5) Lastly, when you are an incredible winner at life and somehow managed to drop a bottle of nail polish and spill it all over the floor (sorry mum for that one time), I still got your back. Pour a good handful of sugar on a puddle of polish, it will clump within a couple of seconds making it easy to sweep up.
